MIDWIFFERY AND OBSTETRICAL NURSING DEPARTMENT

This department is working with the objective of help the students to acquire knowledge and skills in rendering nursing care to normal and high risk pregnant woman during antenatal, natal and postnatal periods in hospitals and community settings. And also helps to develop skills in managing normal and highrisk neonates and participate in family welfare programme.

In this year total 40 students of our IV year B.Sc Nursing were trained in Midwifery and obstetrical Nursing both theory and practicals. All 40 students were posted in C.S.I. Mission Hospital Neyyoor, Nagercoil and Marthandam for their clinical training from January 2019 – March 2019 after the theory classes. They were trained in both day and night times during their clinical posting.

They were posted in different areas of DBG department such as antenatal ward, postnatal ward, labour room, post operative ward, NICU, antenatal OPD, Immunization room and special wards.

They have dome many antenatal, postnatal and newborn assessments, episiotomy and suturing, conducted normal deliveries and assisted in caesarean sections, forceps and ventouse extractions in their clinical areas.

Students had given health educations to the mothers regarding different topics related to maternal and child health.

We incorporated different methods of clinical teaching such as nursing rounds, bedside clinic, incidental teaching and clinical presentations.

We trained our students to face the OSCE/OSPE, clinical practical examination and viva voce. We have completed the syllabus prescribed by the TN.Dr.MGR. Medical University, Chennai.

We were conducted class tests, unit tests, periodical exams and model exams both theory and practical.

Throughout this year we had good co-operation from the personnel in the clinical areas, department faculty and students.
